Bajaj Dominar 400 Launched At Rs 1.36 Lakh

Bajaj Dominar 400 bikeDecember 15, 2016 – Long wait for the Bajaj Dominar 400 is finally over, as the Pune-based bikemaker has rolled out the bike in the Indian market. Priced at Rs 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new Bajaj 400cc motorcycle will be competing against the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the Mahindra Mojo. One can pre-book the bike online at a token amount of Rs 9000, while the balance payment will be made at dealerships. Deliveries will begin in January 2017. Badged as Bajaj’s fastest and most powerful bike, the new Bajaj Dominar 400cc is a flagship model that is positioned above the Pulsar range. The company will also introduce several new performance bikes under this brand.
With the new Bajaj Dominar 400, the home-grown bikemaker aims to set new benchmark in the Indian two-wheeler industry. The company aims to sell over 10,000 units of the Dominar on monthly basis. The ‘Dominar’ is a Spanish word which means domination or to rule. Based on the Pulsar CS400 concept, previewed at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, the Bajaj Dominar 400 carries an unconventional design, and positioned between the cruiser and the naked streetfighter.

Bajaj Dominar 400 Specifications

Engine373.27cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled
Max Power35bhp @ 8,000rpm
Max Torque30Nm @ 8,500rpm
Top Speed148kmpl
Powering the Dominar 400 is the same 373.27cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that does duty in the KTM Duke 390 and RC390. Though, the bikemaker has de-tuned it significantly for achieving higher fuel efficiency. Now, this mill is capable of producing power worth 35bhp at 8,000rpm against 30Nm of torque at 8,500rpm. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 6-speed gearbox. Bajaj claims that the Dominar 400 can do 0-100kmph in 8.3 seconds before hitting a top speed of 148kmph. The bike carries a kerb weight of 182kgs, and offers a fuel tank capacity of 13-litres

Bajaj Dominar 400 Design

With respect to design and styling, the Bajaj Domiar 400 looks largely similar to the Ducati Diavel. Though, it has borrowed some of its design cues from the Pulsar 200NS. The new Bajaj 400cc bike sits on the perimeter frame, and features the raked front, sporty front cowl and large LED headlamps along with sweptback visor as we have seen on the Pulsar CS400 concept. The Dominar is the first Bajaj bike to get LED headlamps.
Ditching the clip-on handlebar, this cruiser sport comes fitted with a flat unit. The bike also gets a LCD display on the fuel tank and digital instrument cluster. Other design highlights include gear shift indicator with white backlight, stepped saddle seat and sculpted fuel tank with contours inspired from the Pulsar NS200. The rear profile of the bike looks quite sporty with Pulsar twin-slash LED setup for the taillamps.

Bajaj Dominar 400 Braking and Suspension

Unlike the Pulsar CS400 concept that was equipped with the USD front forks, the Bajaj Dominar 400 gets the regular telescopic forks upfront and mono-shock setup at the rear. Instead of KTM’s Metzelers, the new 400cc Bajaj bike rides on MRF RevZ C1 tyres. This cruiser sport derives its braking power from single-drilled disc brakes combined with a single-channel ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System). The new Dominar 400 offers improved stability on higher speeds, thanks to its longer wheelbase and chunky box-section swingarm.

Bajaj Dominar 400 Competition

As of now, the Bajaj Dominar 400 won’t have a direct competition in the market. However, this 400cc motorcycle will be positioned in the cruiser segment that is currently dominated by Royal Enfield. The bike will also affect sales of the Mahindra Mojo, KTM 200 Duke and Benelli TNT 25.
