CM plans satellite city for Chennai
Tamilnadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today informed the Assembly that a new Satellite Township would be built at Thirumazhisai at a cost of Rs 2,160 crores. Making a statement under Rule 110 in the State Assembly, Jayalalithaa said that the new housing development schemes, aimed at benefitting all sections of the people, have been thought up in view of the rapid expansion of the Chennai city and the skyrocketting real estate prices. |

As part of the new housing schemes, the Tamilnadu Housing Board will build the Satellite Township on a 311.05 acre land at Thirumazhisai on the Chennai-Bangalore National highway integrating Chembarambakkam, Kuthambakkam, Parvatharajapuram, Narasingapuram and Vellavedu villages. She said 12.87 acres of land would be acquired from the owners after due consultations for developing link roads to the Thirumazhisai Satellite Township which would have all basic facilities like drinking water, drainage, rain water harvesting, street lights, community hall, schools, hospital, bus stand, park and playground. Jayalalithaa said 12,000 apartments would be built in the township and would be sold to economically weaker sections and middle income group people at affordable rates. She further announced a housing project on a 3.73 acre area at Ashok Nagar area in the city where a timber manufacturing unit had become dysfunctional for the last 15 years. The project aimed at meeting the housing requirements of the Chennai city would consist of 554 housing units at a cost of Rs 100 crores. She also said a new housing project to build 120 houses at a cost of Rs 33 crores comprising 1.44 lakh sq ft would be built along with a 4.66 lakh sqft multi-storeyed commercial complex at Koyambedu at a cost of Rs 116 crores. She said all the projects would be executed by the Tamilnadu Housing Board which is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year. To commemorate this, Jayalalithaa announced increase in quota for differently-abled people from the present one per cent to three per cent in allotment of plots, houses, apartments to be built by the Housing Board. She said a new 17-storeyed 'Green' Office Complex would be built at a cost of Rs 100 crores in a 15.78 acre land at Nandanam belonging to the Tamilnadu Slum Clearance Board. The revenue accrued from this office complex would be used towards maintenance of the housing apartments built by the Slum Clearance board. |
